Developmental milestones of a one-year-old

Your baby is just about to turn one, and apart from planning their birthday, you also need to evaluate their health.

It is important for the parents to know and keep track of the developmental milestones, which are set of traits that your child should be exhibiting.

If parents are unable to ascertain if their child has met the milestones or not, they can then timely visit their Child specialist in Lahore to gauge for developmental problems that their child may have. The sooner the problems are addressed, the better it is for the health of the baby and yourself as well.

The milestones of a one-year-old

The milestones that tend to occur during 12 and 24 months of age include:

Behavior

You might notice your sweet little angel getting angry suddenly and becoming more aggressive. Don’t worry, it is very much normal.

Babies at this age start to become difficult to manage, as their emotional spectrum now includes frustration as well, which they express by being physically active.

Compliance

At around 18 months of age, children start to get semblance of what you are saying to them, and thus, they can follow the instructions that you give them. For example, if you ask them to hand over something to you, they will, or at least, they know what you mean!

Empathy

You can also expect your child to become more empathetic, as they become more attuned to their emotions. For example, if someone around them cries, they are also more likely to bawl. Similarly, someone’s laughter might also coerce as smile out of them.

Food

Babies at this age are more active, and thus need a greater supply of solid foods alongside milk. Parents should, however, try not to give them foods that have spices etc. added to them. Similarly, cutting back on processed and sugary foods is also important.

Independence

As the babies start to become more independent, it helps to encourage this habit by encouraging them to make decisions, but don’t overwhelm them. For example, give them two options, and ask them which they want.

This dialogue will not only help them channel their independence the correct way, but also, the talking will contribute towards the development of their verbal skills as well.

If your child doesn’t say three words on his first birthday, don’t worry! But now if he doesn’t try to follow the voice of the voices, he is slower and you should talk to your doctor.

Explaining why a child slowly reaches developmental stages generally falls into three categories; It can be a biological commentary, a psychological commentary or a social commentary.

Play time

Play time also becomes different as your baby grows older. With their improved motor skills, they might be able to play with blocks or musical instruments. Some babies might enjoy playing with cars, as their movement fascinates them.

Self-sufficiency

As you baby makes their way to become a two-year-old, they start to become more independent. They can carry out some of their own chores themselves, like wearing uncomplicated set of shoes, or at least try.

This might also mean that they develop a sense of independence, which then later aids the terrible twos a well.

Sleep

As the baby grows older, they need less sleep. So, at this age, your baby should be getting around 11 to 14 hours of sleep. Depending on your schedule, it can come out to be one to two naps alongside full night’s sleep.

Speech

While the baby will not be stringing sentences together, you can expect them to start making some gibberish noise. Some might be able to say ma, or da, or variants therefore, but most of their communication tends to be non-verbal.

However, as they get closer to the two-year mark, they might become more verbose.

Walking

As your baby’s motor skills develop, they might also start to walk, or at least stand using a support. Whereas walking comes naturally to some babies, others need encouragement from their parents to take their first steps.

If your baby is having trouble walking or is not able to walk even after turning two, or not showing any signs of walking, you should book an appointment with the specialist via oladoc.com.

A parent who understands the primary development and development of the child knows what to expect when it comes to the developmental stages of their child. Child development means physical, mental, emotional and social development. The stages of their development mean that when they achieve something new, it’s their first tooth or it’s their first turn.

Scissors scales are a list of traits that are considered normal for children of a certain age. In development (eg speaking in full sentences at 18 months), the child may reach developmental milestones much older than average or much younger than normal (not speaking at 18 months).

It is important for parents to remind children that they can reach the developmental stage at their own pace. The development ladder enables children to reach these developmental stages. A baby who is growing at a healthy rate can walk for 5 months or 8 months. Parents need not be afraid if their children do not reach their developmental stage within the allotted time.
